I enjoyed the play of the ruffled fabric when incorporating them into sleeves, cascades, and circular petals. You can find samples of this on a previous mood board.

Overall, I wanted these designs to have a downward movement to them whether it may be within their drape, proportion, or seam details.

My collection includes a mix of dresses, blouses, rompers, shorts, pants, and a light jacket. I incorporated falling or stooping elements by elongating certain pieces — having dropped pockets, drapery, and layering garments.

Moodboard 2. Fabric, Color Scheme, inspiration image/muse, and two 3D samples.
Making 3D samples are a great way for clients, viewers, and/or the production team to visualize your overall concept and idea. These could range from a design detail or a select part of the garment, made from fashion fabric or muslin. For this particular collection, I made samples of beading and the circular effect from slicing the ruffled fabric.
You can find Moodboard 1 here.

(Flats)

These are the first set of technical flats I’ve ever made.

I worked on my flats by hand, using a traditional template, but then scanned them in the computer. My friend gave me a quick beginning tutorial of Illustrator where I spent a good weekend trying to trace over my designs. For this project, we were required to complete 4.

(Fabric Selection)

My fabric selection includes light wool, cotton, cotton jerseys; polyester blends with wool or cotton, and a cotton/satin mix.

Since most fabrics chosen were simple jerseys, I wanted to have some fabrics with different textures such as crinkle features in the wool/poly blend, a wool twill with lined stitching, a satin/cotton mix with tricot patches, and a really interesting ruffled fabric.

31| staying in tune.

I honestly believe that a reflection of my lack of posting, the state of my room, and my abandoned closet is a clear reflection of myself from the past, almost 3 months now — absent and neglectful. I’ve been forced with a myriad of problems that were waiting for one domino to fall before forming the worst chain reaction I’ve ever lived through. Let’s stress once more — I’ve lived through it. Although, I wish the latter was as quick and nimble as writing it. Unfortunately, I’ve had to swallow some awful truths - about accepting life/death, love, present > future & past, the meaning of friendships, the complexities of the imperfect human, etc. I’ve learned that perfectionism drives me in sometimes the most abusive ways, yet, I am byfar not perfect, but needless to say, imperfect humans still want the best things for themselves.

I’ve had to let go a lot of things the past few months — mainly the ideas of the past ever catching up to me. I can never take time back and haul it forward. It strictly doesn’t belong to where I am in this point of my life. This forced time-travel is an example of why traveling into the past simply doesn’t work. It’s backwards.  We get stuck. So unless you’re channeling that energy for your art (which is still, hairy territory), take care of yourself to preserve the artist, especially in areas where you have the control. Living your life is an art, and the main critique is you.

No sense of re-living or analyzing the events that unfolded in my absent time, because again, that’s digression. So here I am, in forward movement. This Spring Semester has been quite a haze. I’ve been in a small bubble, and inhibited learning from its maximum potential. My ceiling of academia was at a low clearance, trying to correspond with the two paragraphs above. Nevertheless, I have a handful to share with all of you…

Thanks for staying tuned.
